What is the Primary Year Programme (PYP)?  
MIS is an international Baccalaureate World School authorized to provide this educational framework.  Founded on a philosophy that recognizes a child's natural curiosity, creativity and ability to reflect, the PYP generates a stimulating, challenging learning environment to nurture those assets and foster a lifelong love of learning.  The PYP promotes integrated, inquiry-based learning  through the units of inquiry that comprise the core curricular content for students.
What are multiage classes?
MIS classes are organized in a multiage framework.  This framework allows for collaboration and learning in variety of ways.  Older students benefit form the qualities of leadership and responsibility they develop while younger students benefit from the mentorship and modeling provided by their older peers.  Multiage education provides an authentic learning environment where individual needs can be met and a student-centered educational experience.
What does Spanish immersion look like in the school?
In preschool through 5th grade, all of the traditional subjects-language arts, science, social studies, math - are taught IN Spanish.  MIS students learn the content of a primary grades curriculum while learning a second language.  In preschool through first grade, 100% of the classroom time is spent in Spanish while one hour of direct English instruction begins in second grade.  In middle school, students learn about ancient civilizations and Spanish grammar two hours each day.  
What role does STEAM play in the learning at the school?
The integrated approach to science, technology, engineering, arts and math complements the inquiry based learning of the PYP.  Students in kindergarten learn basic programming and collaboration through Lego® Robotics. Beginning in second grade, student have a technology class while also making use of the laptops, iPads and Chromebooks for research and project-based learning in the classroom.  Students participate in the design process to create projects printed on one of our 3D printers.  MIS also offers additional afterschool activities in robotics, art, Math Counts team and First Lego®League Team.
